See Tim On the Cover of the Quarter Horse News!

Check out the July 15, 2007 Quarter Horse News to see Tim McQuay on 2006 NRHA Futurity Champion, Taris Designer Genes.

Tim rode Taris Designer Genes, owned by Rancho Oso Rio, Scottsdale, Ariz. to tie for the Open Derby Championship of the Reining By The Bay in Woodside, Calif. June 1-16 with Andrea Fappani on Big Chex To Cash, owned by the 23 Partnership of San Marcos, Calif.

Tim made the trip to California to catch ride Taris Designer Genes for his good friend, Randy Paul. According to Paul, “Tim and I have always been there for each other. It was great. Tim knows my program and we’re similar in a lot of ways.”

The mare was already at McQuays, having gone there for a ET breeding to Gunner, so it was convenient for Tim to get her ready to show.

Pat Warren, owner of Taris Designer Genes, said, “Tim was wonderful. It was really exciting to have him here. I just wish Colleen could have come because it’s such a pretty setting here at this show.”

According to Pat, McQuay hadn’t shown and of the Rancho Oso Rio horses since qualifying Taris Little Vintage (dam of Taris Designer Genes) for the 1994 AQHA World Show.

McQuay said that showing the mare was a pleasure. “I could have changed a couple of things that would have made it better on the mare. I know her buttons a little better now after actually showing her. You can practice those things, but until you show a horse, you never really know them. I learned she is very, very honest and shows exactly the way she trains outside. She’s not very big or stout but she’s powerful. She rides like a big horse!”
