Tim McQuay Wins Jim Glover Tulsa Reining Classic Futurity on Great King Pine Tim McQuay, the National Reining Horse Association’s All Time Leading Rider, won the Jim Glover Tulsa Reining Futurity on Great King Pine, a son of Earl Be Nimble owned by Gunter Bosner. McQuay steered the young stallion through his first-ever show, to win the 100-entry event, although he had only had the horse for about five weeks before to the event. Great King Pine had been trained prior to that time by Ohio trainer, Larry Rose. “Maybe because he’d never been off Larry’s place before coming to us, he was really looky and a little spooky,” noted McQuay. “But I think he’s the kind of horse that likes to keep busy. You don’t cruise on him. It’s all or nothing.” At Tulsa, Great King Pine’s “all” was a score of 223 to earn over $11,000 plus a year’s use of a Cimmaron 4-Horse Trailer from Champion Trailers Sales. McQuay complimented him. “He’s really athletic and has a ton of feel. He can do anything!” Next on the agenda for Great King Pine is a trip to the All American Quarter Horse Congress Futurity before heading to Oklahoma City for the National Reining Horse Association Futurity. McQuay also placed in the Open Futurity with Hollywood Smart Guy (by Hollywood Dun It), owned by McQuay Stables and Colonel Peppy Gun (by Gunner) owned by Frank and Julie Amabile. Rounding out the successful week for McQuay Stables, assistant trainer Stephano Calcanini placed fourth in the Limited Open Futurity on Paddy’s Irish Angel, owned by Janice Canada. Tim also tied for third in the Novice Horse Open on Shiner N The Box, owned by Darlene Turner. McQuay Stables, located in Tioga, Texas, is known as the home of the late NRHA All Time Leading Sire, Hollywood Dun It. Currently standing at McQuay Stables is NRHA Hall of Fame Inductee, Gunner, along his half-brother, Dun Gotta Gun, and Dun It With A Twist, RR Star, and Reminic N Dun It.
