Congratulations to Hollywoods Smokinbabe

Congratulations to Shawn Flarida and Hollywoods Smokinbabe for their reserve finish (after a tie) at the Clayton Woosley Hall of Fame Reining Brownwood Farm Derby. 114 Derby entries competed for a $32,566 total purse. The event was a joint production by the Ohio Valley Reining Horse Association and the Central Kentucky Reining Horse Association.

Flarida dominated the competition, laying claim to the top three spots and tying himself for first on Hollywoods Smokinbabe and Late Light with a 223.

Hollywoods Smokinbabe is a 4-year-old Paint daughter of McQuay Stables Senior Stallion and NRHA Hall of Fame Inductee Gunner out of Dunits Valentine by Hollywood Dun It, owned by Randy Watson, Jeffersonville, Ind.. The mare had only been with Shawn for ten days when the two marked a 223 to tie for the Championship. Originally, the mare was trained and shown by fellow Ohio trainer Don Boyd during her 3-year-old year. She then went to Matt Flarida’s barn. When she didn’t quite fit Matt’s program, he recommended that Watson send the mare to his uncle Shawn.

“Don and Matt did a great job with her,” Flarida said. “She’s a talented little mare.”
